Arnold grew up to be an apothocary, who is a person who prepares and sells medicine. In 1763, Arnold opened his own drug (medicine) store. Then he was chosen to be captain of a militia.

In 1775 the revolutionary war began and Arnold did his first attack at Fort Ticonderoga, so did Ethan Allen and the Green Mountain Boys. On May 10, 1775 they finally captured the fort. Sadly, people gave Ethan Allen all the credit and that got Arnold upset.
Arnold got to attack Quebec, Canada, But it was so cold they had to boil their shoes for soup! Sadly, many men died and some left without permission. In November of 1775, they landed in Quebec, Canada with only 650 of the 1,100 men Arnold started with! When they attacked, 100 men where killed and 426 were captured. On top of that, he lost the battle.

One day Arnold came up with a plan to trick the British into thinking they need to build more ships. He got the biggest ships he had and sailed them down the river the British were camped at, and fired the cannons at them. So to feel prepared, the navy captain spent the long, cold, winter building ships and killed many due to the freezing cold.

In 1777, Arnold attacked Danbury, Connecticut. They won, but Arnold wanted a promotion for his great work. But when George Washington did not give him a promotion, he got real angry. Then in July of 1777...(This is the part he is famous for so pay attention!) he left the continental army!

Luckily, he came back because he missed fighting in the army. His next attack was on Fort Shuyler and theyexternal image Benedict_arnold_illustration.jpg won! After the win, French send allies to help win the war.

When Arnold became in charge of Philadelphia, he ran out of money and "borrowed" some wagons from the government to use for his own business, but that was against the law an Arnold got court marinated, but did not get sent to jail!
Whenever Arnold tried again to ask for more money George Washington said no, again. On the other hand the British offered him more money so he left the continental army! Again!

He was put in charge of West Point, New York by the British. Arnold thought he had a plan to help the British win the war, but when that plan failed horribly, he fled to London, England. There, he died all alone in 1801. Arnold did some good things for the continental army, but he will always be remembered as Americas first traitor!
